Dr. Adriaan Jordaan: Academic Support Centre Manager
Academic Support Centre
Direction and Purpose
Direction:
To provide a comprehensive and integrated range of academic support services to students across all SACAP Faculties and Programmes. The Centre aims to develop and enhance students’ academic writing, referencing and critical thinking skills to maximise their opportunities for academic success. Academic integrity and the promotion of ethical academic behaviour, responsible scholarship and integrity in academic pursuits comprise the core of the Centre’s function.
Purpose:
To help SACAP students develop academic skills under the guidance of supportive, well-equipped Academic Mentors and Academic Support Advisors. The Centre staff members partner with students to provide personalised support plans and various small–group and large-scale interventions to build a strong academic community in which students have the freedom to explore and express their academic ability and creativity, regardless of identity, personality, and difference in life circumstances. This includes the promotion of equitable access and opportunities to students with disabilities and learning differences as well as non-traditional students. The Centre champions students’ accountability for learning and aims to help develop the next generation of thought leaders by equipping them with the academic skills, and subsequent habits required to help them flourish in higher education. The centre also links students to academic support and guidance services to help solidify their academic values and develop and maintain strong academic ethical standards.
